Yorath is a name I took from an old fantasy book. It was the name of the hero and meant wolf. At the time I was playing a character who was a healer that was quite prepared to fight his way to the person he needed to heal. He was a Celt. This was in a game system called Dumnonnii Chronicles (In Devon). Later on we took over the Mayfest larp festival that is held each year in Devon and my job specifically was, and still is, the running of the plot. To do this I needed a character that would fit in but be powrfull enough to stay out of trouble. Hence Yorath was used as a referee type character at that first festival. By request I also played him at a couple of events run by Dumnonnii Chronicles later where he gained the ability to move through time. This led to his next evolvement. Yorath was, unknowingly at that time, a Time Lord - you know, like Dr. Who! His knowledge of 'Time Magic' makes him very powerful. As his character is very much into gaining profit from others being in power, he is not percieved by other players as a threat to their schemes. THEN I played him in the Dreamforge system. In that system they have a series of spirits responsible for different areas of activities (spirits = gods) and Rath was the name of the one who ruled Time as well as birth and death. Rath -- Yorath. Shortly after I read a short story made up by a player I met at another festival who wrote of a man, the avatar of the god of birth and death who took the form of a wolf by day. This character was called Yorath. The writer wrote the story before he had met me. His name like mine is David and his birthday the 12th Jan 1964 and mine is 21st Jan 1946! Just to round this off, at a Curious Pastimes event, I met a healer called Beloved with her werewolf companion called Yora who were searching for someone who could get them back to their own time. 'David' means 'beloved' and my name is David. |
