When trouble arises
and things look bad, there is always someone who sees a solution and
is willing to take charge. - Very often that person is mad.
Military action
is important to the nation - it is the ground of death and life, the
path of survival and destruction, so it is important to examine it.
- Sun Tzu, The Art of War.
Therefore what
restrains compeditors is harm, what keeps compeditors busy is work,
what motivates compeditors is profit. - Sun Tzu, The Art of War.
What historian
wrote words like, "Of all the war's I have studied I have yet to
find one that was not actually fought for the monetry gain of a few
individuals."
I read yesterday
of a man who died by accidently catching a cricket ball in his mouth.
The back of his skull was cracked from the inside. The news story though
devoted as much space to the fact that the batsman was out as the ball
was caught and not dropped.
I have studied
military action (and war) - it stinks. It is the means by which the
many fight so that the few may get to take from each other or keep what
profit they have or had.
If the enemy is
in range so are you. - US Army manual.
Madness is not
being normal. I am mad. I do not believe the world outside my home is
as danger filled as most others do. I go out and see, feel and hear
what is going on at all times of day or night. Normal people only do
this when they have to. They prefer in their fear to rely on the exaggerated
accounts of the media. I would let my kids play out, give them wooden
rather than plasic toys but encourage them to make their own, teach
them how to do useful things like make box carts and safe ladders, take
them on camping holidays - not because of cost but because it teaches
them so many life skills - and take them out lots to loads of different
types of places so they can play (the real way a child learns) in as
many different environments as possible. See I am quite mad. I grow
vegetables among the flowers in my garden and all my veges are eaten.
Even the green ones. See! Totally mad!
Mankind has a perfect
record in aviation - we have never left one up there! (Now get hold
of and listen to the Goons Show called Wings over Dagenham.) -
Murphy (the one credited with Murphy's Laws).
Any ship can be
a minesweeper at least once.
The only time you
have too much fuel is when there is a fire.
Football commentator
1: "He dribbles forward and then kicks the ball on with his foot!
Yes Brian?" Football commentator 2: "That is right Michael!
It is why they call the game 'football'!"
And while looking
at redundant information a commentator of Grand Prix Formula One actually
said, "He is coming up to the finish line and chequered flag now!
He crosses the line and the flag is waved! He has won!" Well I
suppose he had to say something even if it was something we all knew.
I suspect the statement,
"We have a 100% success rate in aviation. We have never left one
up there!" led to the Goons producing wings over Dagenham, a comedy
where people were attempting to rescue a pilot who could not land as
he hadn't enough fuel to do so.
